Desalination industry
Desalination is an ancient practice. Greek sailors boiled seawater to collect fresh water, and the Romans used clay filters to trap salt. Modern plants still rely on thermal distillation or membrane filtration.
Desalination removes salts, minerals and other contaminants from seawater, brackish water and treated wastewater. It is a growing source of potable and process water for communities and industry.
Plants use thermal processes such as MSF and MED, or reverse osmosis, where high-pressure seawater passes through semipermeable membranes that hold back salt. Multiline maintains MSF, MED and RO units, heat exchangers, intake systems, pumps and valves.
